Fred is a custard cream?

Everyone has a favourite biscuit.

I like chocolate digestives. John, my husband likes ginger ones and Rachel, my daughter, likes bourbons.

Of course, we also like fresh chocolate chip cookies and soft crumbly shortbread and…………

This started me thinking about cruise lines and how diverse they are, but how there’s one to suit everyone.

Now, how many of us have taken our first bite of a new biscuit and decided that that is our favourite and the only one we will ever eat? Probably very few of us. I am still on the search for the perfect tea-dunker but am enjoying sampling different taste experiences along the way.

This is how I view cruising. I have been lucky enough to have tried different lines and ships. What’s my favourite? Honestly, I don’t know. A cruise to me is about the opulent surroundings, fine dining and exciting itineraries but above all is more than that. It is about the people I have travelled with and the ones I have met on my travels , the countries I have visited, the films I have watched under the stars, the dance classes, watching my son win the talent show etc…

If you are planning your trip of a lifetime, research all you can. Look on our website, join the forums but keep an open mind.

Now, more than ever before, there are some astounding prices. £599 for 11 nights on P&O or Cunard, cheaper than a week overseas in a B&B, so try something new. Take a nibble of a macaroon. You may have just found your ultimate snack.

Back to biscuits, I don’t like ginger biscuits as I ate them by the ton whilst enduring morning sickness but as I said, they are John’s favourite. What one person likes, another doesn’t.

How do you know if you are choosing the right cruise? You don’t, you need to try it.

Of course I will point you in the right direction and be honest if it is not suitable for you.

So, if you are  looking for a Garibaldi or a fig roll then maybe an Italian ship with MSC. A colourful party ring will maybe be a Norwegian Cruise Line ship.

Or a comforting and thoroughly British cruise experience on the custard cream that is Fred Olsen! ( Ok, so they come from Norway!!)
