MS Koningsdam… A Jewel In Holland America’s Crown

Last weekend, I was lucky to fly out to Amsterdam to see Holland America’s newest ship MS Koningsdam.

As a lovely bonus to this, we got to stay at the Movenpick Hotel right by the cruise terminal and spend some time in this delightful city.

I have been to Amsterdam a few times before but there is always somewhere new to explore. As a cruise port it is ideal as the ships dock right in town and the airport is a 4 Euro 20 minute ride away.

After a very interesting walking tour, we had a delicious lunch in a restaurant and then a relaxing afternoon (much needed after early flights) sampling a few local beverages and doing a spot of people watching.

That evening we were treated to dinner on board a canal cruiser taking in the sights and enjoying the lights of the city.

I awoke the next morning in my 14th floor room to a fantastic view of the magnificent Koningsdam.

Koning in Dutch means King and this new monarch of the fleet did not disappoint. At 99,500 tons but only taking 2,650 passengers, there is plenty of space to enjoy. The ship is beautiful. I loved the contemporary feel, the light woods and modern artwork. I also love the splashes of colour all around. Red vases and lights in the main restaurant, colourful pool towels and even a bright green bunny on deck!

This is 5* cruising without the price tag of some other premium cruise lines. The food was amazing, cabins delightful and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would happily return to this delightful ship for a longer stay.
