Out Of Africa

I am not sure if you have already seen our fantastic “bucket list” trip to South Africa and Kruger safari before travelling back to Southampton on the Queen Mary 2?   If you haven’t seen it, and this is something which you have always wanted to experience then you really need to be checking it out.

For a start the Queen Mary 2 is a really great ship. Great accommodation, fantastic restaurants to try out, the largest library at sea, the only kennels at sea, the fantastic planetarium, great entertainment and the fabulous Princess and Queens grills suites!  One of my favourite things about her is the afternoon teas and the champagne lounge!

This trip though takes in the best safari area in Africa, in my humble opinion. Having experienced Kruger and stayed there all I can say is wow!  I stayed there for 3 nights and I think I experienced  everything I could have hoped for and more.  It is one of the largest game reserves and of course this is the place to go if you want to see the big 5. For me the sheer beauty of the place was the first thing that i guess in a way surprised me as I did not think it would be so beautiful. The accomodation in the different areas of Kruger was really great. The staff were fantastic and of course so knowledgeable and proud to show of this fantastic area and country.

The game drives are usually done in the very early morning and at night.  For me the highlights of my trip were just coming round a bend in the road, and there on the right hand side were lioness and the cubs. Just lying sleeping, not a care in the world and did not seem to care that we were there at all! So beautiful and a precious moment in time.

Going to see the elephants was wonderful as these are my favourite animals. They are so beautiful and very intelligent. We saw the babies in the pool getting a wash and playing around, it was fantastic. One of the sad episodes though in seeing these elephants was that one of them was wild and could not come into the compound. He was standing making noises, and the other elephants kept going over to him by the fence – so sad but as the guides said they could not take him in as he was wild and would cause trouble.

Probably the biggest highlight of my trip there was taking a micro aircraft flight over Kruger. We were up really early and each one of us had to go onto the aircraft individually as can only take the pilot and one other. The sights you can see from up there are fantastic, it is such a beautiful area. That was finished off with breakfast in the bush – wonderful!

This “bucket list” trip though does not just include Kruger, as from there you go onwards to the Victoria Falls, Cape Town, Stellenbosch and then onwards to Namibia and home. What a marvellous trip!

If Africa is on your bucket list (and it should be!) then i think this trip would really tick most of the boxes. If you do want any information on Kruger, please get in touch.

Till next time x
