My Ship Visit on Magellan

On Saturday I was able to experience a taste of what cruising is like with Cruise and Maritime. I embarked Magellan in Newcastle for a day visit before she set sail on her 7 day Majestic Fjordland cruise. The first thing I noticed was how spacious the public areas were. Plenty of natural light and lots of room with sitting areas for guests to relax during those sea days or catch up with fellow guests.

We then had a welcome drink in Sinatra’s Lounge. I was impressed by the decor of this lounge as it was stylish and comfortable. This is one of the most popular lounges on board which guests love to go to on an evening with the live singers and bands, a perfect place for pre dinner drinks. I was equally impressed with the price of the drinks on board which I found really reasonable. Wine from £5.00 , Beer from £2.30 and cocktails from £3.85. A good selection on offer to cater for most tastes!

We then headed to the wellness and beauty centre where guests have complimentary use of the facilities and can purchase spa treatments. There were some fantastic offers on various treatments so if you d like to pamper yourself, it is definitely worth a visit.

Next it was onto the cabins. We looked at a standard outside double cabin. Again, I was surprised at the size of the cabin. There was plenty of light coming in from the port hole and modern furnishings. All of the cabins feature a flat screen TV, hair-dryer and personal safe. Then we looked at a De Luxe cabin. These were extremely spacious with a generous balcony featuring 2 loungers,  The De Luxe cabins come with extra little touches fresh fruit and flowers. Worth paying the extra if it is a special occasion or want a lot more space.

Moving on to the public areas we stopped to look at a well equipped Gym, a two tier theatre which was used during the day as a cinema, observed the shops on board, the casino and the pool area. We also passed through the busy buffet restaurant which had a huge variety of dishes for guests to choose from. One of the guests on board actually said to me whilst I was passing that she’d had a  fantastic cruise  would definitely recommend it, which was lovely to hear.

Then it was off to lunch, my favourite part!! I wasn’t disappointed. The food on board was fantastic and I was full by the 3rd course but I thought it rude not to finish! There is a choice of formal dining for lunch or the buffet restaurant is always available. However on day of embarkation guests are to use the buffet restaurant as they arrive and can dine in the formal restaurant in the evening.

All in all, I personally think Magellan is an ideal choice for someone looking for a great value cruise. It is an adult only cruise and caters for the British Market. A great benefit to many is that most of the cruises depart from the UK therefore no need to fly. A smaller ship which appeals to many new to cruise and has the advantage to visit some of the more remote ports of call.
