Happy New Year!  Mine was very different to last year! How was yours?

First of all, I would like to wish all my clients a very Happy New Year and health and happiness for 2018!

I hope you all had a wonderful festive period and are now ready for the year ahead, whatever that may bring.

This was the first year in over 4 years that I was in the UK for both Christmas and the New Year.  I had a very different one last year and not so pleasant.  I worked on a cruise ship and want you to imagine the scene.

It is December 30 and you are called to the Hotel Director’s office and asked to sit down.  He then explains that our next cruise starting on 4 January has been cancelled ‘due to operational reasons’.  Then the bombshell comes, he says we need to tell all of our 46 back to back passengers on New Year’s Eve that they will have to disembark the ship for two weeks.

He had pleaded with Head Office to allow us to do this on New Year’s Day as it was to be the Captain’s Gala on New Year’s Eve and this would put a dampener on the mood, alas no it had to be on this day (the reason was made clear as the Touring side had been sold so the announcement had to made then).

Suffice to say New Year’s Eve went with a different bang!  Once the announcement was made, gossip ensued as to what was going to happen next.  This came on 4 January last year, once all passengers were disembarked – the company who owned the ship had gone into administration – but that is another story that I’ve already told!

This year was very different, calm and relaxing.  I spent a wonderful evening with my two grandsons Kieran, aged 8 and Jack, aged 4.  My family is the main benefit of being home and watching these two grow over the last year has been wonderful.  I’m looking forward to many more years.
