You call that Art???

It has been announced today that marine artist and conservationist Guy Harvey has been commissioned to design the signature hull artwork for Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest ship – Norwegian Escape – launching in October 2015, the signature hull artwork for Norwegian Escape will feature two scenes with marine wildlife.

The highlight of the hull painting will be a giant sailfish, while the length of the hull will feature turtles, stingrays, frigate birds and whale sharks. On the stern will be depictions of coral reefs and reef fish.

The trend started with Norwegian Cruise Line who have been creating signature ‘Hull Art’ on  all of their recent ships

Norwegian Breakaway  was launched in May 2013 along with its amazing colourful hull design. The art was designed by popular artist and pop artist Peter Max. Norwegian Breakaway’s home port is  New York which is also where Peter is based so he was a perfect choice for the new ship.

Popular Miami modern artist and muralist David “LEBO” Le Batard was commissioned to paint the signature hull artwork for the line’s brand new cruise ship Norwegian Getaway, which launched in January this year.

As a sharp contrast to Norwegian Cruiseline’s instantly recognisable bold and funky designs the launch of P&O Britannia will see a livery that is altogether more British.

P&O Cruises has revealed it is changing the livery of its ships, adding a Union Flag design intended to highlight the line’s British heritage.

New ship Britannia will feature a design of new Union Flag  ‘styled in a contemporary way which looks to the future whilst celebrating the past. The imagery will be sympathetic to the ships’ sweeping lines and enhance their presence in port or at sea’ this will be a first for any British ship and as part of the modernisation of their fleet the new design will feature on the bow of all ships by 2016, the aim of this bold new look will make P&O ships yet more distinctive and recognisable across the world.

With the Britannia’s Godmother still to be confirmed maybe Banksy will be given the honour – what do you think?
