My £3000 cat!

This is a story about Fiona my £3000 cat – it is not such a tenuous link to booking a cruise as you might think!

I bought Fiona last year age 1 for £100. She is a lovely little Bengal cat who loves to go outside but is never too far away and comes home every night to her cozey bed

As she is a pedigree I set about getting pet insurance for her like I have done for all of my previous pets and my dog

Just before the August Bank Holiday she went out and was missing for 9 days, when she came limping home in a sorry state I took her to the vets to find she had a broken leg

The vet said she would need surgery and asked if she was insured as the treatment was likely to be £3000 – of course she is! I said…

After the operation I started to look through my emails for the pet insurance details – to my horror I could find all of the online quotes from a year earlier but no policy details, I checked my bank statements to look for the monthly direct debit payments and my heart sank when I realised I had not actually taken the insurance out for her hence I now have a £3000 cat (and no landscaped garden that I was saving for)

The moral of my story is to make sure you have adequate fully comprehensive cruise travel insurance and it sounds obvious always check the small print

Mr L called me yesterday, his cruise didn’t turn out to be what he expected, 3 days out from Southampton the ship headed south to the Azores due to bad weather missing out 4 of the ports that he had booked for and paid for shore excursions, his insurance was a standard travel policy NOT a cruise policy – most cruise policies will cover for missed ports of call and can be claimed for in such circumstances

Don’t be a dummy like me and always check the policy details when you receive them to make sure your are fully covered!
