Its Only Norway Again!

I O N A that is!

When P&O launched their 2020 Summer programme with the brand new Iona itineraries the question we all asked was why is she only cruising in Norway!

P&O say Iona itineraries have been carefully designed as an introduction to the region, offering something for everyone, all wrapped up in one unforgettable holiday. In each port, a collection of shore excursions will take you to the heart of Norway’s astonishing natural wonders and diverse cultural attractions.

P&O have changed their deployment to ‘tracker’ itineraries where each ship will cruise each destination making the choice of cruise by simpler

But is there more to this than meets the eye?

I have heard that the reason Iona is only cruising in Norway is due to the new type of fuel – with an eye on environmental responsibility, P&O Cruises have ensured that Iona is designed to have a minimal impact in this respect. Using LNG liquefied natural gas, she will be the cruise line’s most environmentally-friendly ship, giving fewer exhaust emissions than the rest of the fleet  and apparently can only be refueled in Norway

I don’t know if this is true but if this is the case could this mean that winter itineraries may be to limited destinations – could you imagine the horror out running out of fuel – there is no hard shoulder in the ocean!
