Italian Getaway…

This week my husband and I spent the week in Sorrento. We’ve never been to Italy so we chose a destination with lots to explore, and it didn’t disappoint. This area has so much to offer whether your staying here as a land based holiday or arriving into Naples on a cruise ship you will want to return time and time again.

Sorrento itself is a bustling town with an abundance of shops to suit all needs. Even more choice of restaurants and ice cream parlors. The famous O’Parrucchiano restaurant is where cannelloni was invented over 100 years ago and well worth a visit from the outside its tiny but once inside it opens up and has beautiful gardens to the rear. Make sure to sample the limoncello which is the local drink.  Sorrento is on a rocky coast line, there is no beach however the sea can be accessed by platforms at the base of the cliffs. Some of these platforms hold a charge to rent sun beds and parasols others are public so take your pick. The town has fantastic views over the bay to mount Vesuvius, Naples and the island of Capri. Sit and relax on an evening with a drink and you can encounter stunning sunsets. There’s a land train Due Golfi Train which will show you the sites around Sorrento it takes 30 minutes. There’s really good transport links by train bus or ferry to visit all the sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, Positano, Amalfi, Capri an Ischia.  You can visit these places independently or use a local tour company for something more organised.

Capri famous for the Blu Grotto and its stunning coast line. You can take an organised excursion or a fast ferry from Sorrento or Naples. From the port take the Funicular up to Capri town where rows of designer boutiques line the cobbled streets. You can walk along to the Augustus gardens with views overlooking the Faraglioni Rocks and the Marina Piccola where Gracie Fields once lived. From the port you can also take an island boat tour taking in the Natural Arch the Blu Grotto and the Faraglioni Rocks. The views are stunning from Capri town so grab a cocktail or your favorite drink and sit in one of the many cafes and take it all in…

Next time I’ll tell you about my visits to the stunning Positano, Amalfi and Pompeii
