Our time in Toronto

So I am now back in the office after being off for nearly 3 weeks for my honeymoon and sitting down to write my blog thinking where should I start to tell you about our amazing trip away – and it only seems right to start at the beginning.

Our flights for our trip were with Air Canada and for the long haul flights, we paid extra to have the emergency exit seats. The flight to Toronto was just over 7 hours and we had taken the 08:30 from Heathrow which meant we then arrived in Toronto at 11:10 their time (5 hours time difference) and so that then gave us the rest of the day to explore.

We took a taxi from the airport which cost us $70 Can which is approx £42 to our hotel the Sheraton Toronto, which was our home for 3 nights. We got an upgrade to a club room on arrival which meant that we could have breakfast every day included, and also daily hors’doueves between 5-8pm.  The hotel we found to be in a good location – 10 minutes walk from Union Station, 5 mins to the harbour for a harbour cruise, and approx 12 mins walk to the CN Tower. Our hotel also backed out on to Nathan Place, City Hall and then 5 minutes walk brought you to a shopping mall.

We decided on the first day to keep busy and decided to go to visit the CN Tower, Ripleys Aquarium which was next door. Both are opposite the Rogers Centre which is home to the Toronto Blue Jays (baseball team) but sadly they were not playing whilst we were there. If you are going to be doing the CN Tower and Ripleys Aquarium then if you pre-book your tickets online you can get a multi-ticket which will save you money. The CN Tower was undergoing renovations to the main observatory so half it was closed but they were offering free access to the Skypod which is the highest observation deck located 33 stories above the main observation level but you had to get a ticket for this and there was at least an hour wait when we went so as there were none of the cafes open except the ala carte 360 restaurant we decided not to bother waiting. My husband loves Aquariums and enjoyed the time we spent there, there was a moving walkway halfway around the aquarium in the dangerous lagoon where sharks and turtles swam above your head.

After we had visited both places the jetlag at 4 pm started to kick in so we went back to the hotel for a swim as it was so warm/humid – 25 degrees and the Sheraton had an outdoor swimming pool,  we then went for afternoon hors-d’oeuvres and was thinking about where to go for dinner at about 7 pm when the next thing we know we have both been asleep and its now the following day and its of our trip to Niagara Falls which I will tell you about next time

Have a great couple of weeks

Kerry xx
