Call security – There is a thief on board!

Most people when they go on a cruise or even stay in a hotel will take home the toiletries or the pen, paper and postcards left in the room which is kind of expected, but have you ever witnessed anybody stealing from any of the shops/photo gallery or another passenger whilst on board a cruise?

I always thought on a cruise this kind of behaviour of stealing didn’t happen – firstly because its on a cruise ship and isn’t the thing to do and secondly with all the CCTV on board why would people try to.  However I got to see first hand when I was on the Queen Mary 2 of someone trying to steal their photos from the photo gallery.

So It was the last night and was very busy down in the gallery with everyone buying or searching for their photos from the previous nights formal evening and also the entire cruise. One gentleman had found all of his photos and had them in his arms – he was approached by the member of staff walking the floor and asked if he needed any help which he replied no. Next thing the gentleman has walked out of the gallery with his photos and not paid for them and being chased by the gallery staff.  He was then escorted back into the gallery and taken to a till (jumping the queue of 16 people waiting to pay) He was told he would then be buying every single photo he had taken and the staff member proceeded to ring them up on the till and charged his account using the customers key card. The customer then refused to buy them and sign for his photos and was advised by staff his card was being kept and they would be calling security. The customer then walked off so unfortunately I can not finish the story and tell you what became of him as it didn’t seem right to follow them.

The whole of the gallery was just gobsmacked that someone had attempted to steal whilst on board a cruise and especially on a Cunard cruise. I know the prices are a bit expensive on board but you still don’t expect to see that.

Have you ever experienced anybody stealing on board and what was it they tried to take? and what was the final outcome? I would love to hear your stories.
