Great opportunities for sailing from Brazil

Brazil is a great destination to cruise around, with fantastic scenery and amazing place to visit. However not many ships are based here, Brazil is mainly serviced by the luxury cruise lines, or only featured as part of the world cruise sectors However all this is going to change with MSC basing their new ship the MSC Seaview in Santos, Brazil.

The 154,000-ton ship will significantly increase capacity and offer many more passengers the opportunity to sale, than their current ship the Preziosa. MSC Seaside will also interport in Salvador. A second MSC ship will also be in the market, as the Magnifica will homeport in Santos.

Currently the MSC Sinfonia sails from Rio de Janeiro and this is again being replaced by a larger ship – the MSC Fantasia  and MSC are going to increase their fly cruise options from here, particularly for Brazilian passengers. A fourth ship, the MSC Orchestra, will also be in the market, sailing from Buenos Aires.

“We are evaluating all the possibilities. There can still be changes, but the idea is to boost capacity,” said Adrian Ursilli, MSC’s general director in Brazil. According to MSC, the cruise market in Brazil has had a slump but is now on the up again and they plan to take full advantage.

“In the last 15 years, we’ve seen a huge spike in the cruise sector that peaked with 20 ships here in the 2011-2012 season. We knew, however, that this was going to change at some time, as the necessary measures were never taken by the government,” Ursilli continued.

“We are trying to create a more sustainable environment that would allow the cruise sector to grown again and MSC has all the interest in investing even more in the country,” Ursilli added.

This can only be good news for Brazil and cruisers alike.  For countries to grow and prosper they need companies like MSC to show their commitment and invest and for the average cruise customer, more choice and great deals will be on offer.
