The Captain’s A Lady

A lovely surprise awaited us when we boarded the Celebrity Equinox in Miami, we had no idea who the captain was, the first announcement came shortly before we boarded for our Caribbean Cruise, & so nice to hear her voice Captin kate – The first female Captain – In a profession which is traditionally dominated by men.

She was a delight from start to finish she made her presence known which is something her male counterparts rarely do.

The evening shows in the entertainment lounge she was there, and sitting down  at the front on 4 of the nights on board, each daily report/message from the bridge from her was informative and funny, each announcement was followed by a cruise question and the answer was given to us the following day,  with her own personality shining through, details of her life and how she came to be the first female captain were all given to us on a Q&A meeting in the show lounge.

Years and years of experience explaining she started off by working on tiny boats delivering bananas back home, she also worked with Royal Caribbean as an entertainment officer. Around the pool area, she also took part in the activities and the night time disco nights she would take part in the judging.

She also travels with her beloved cat Bug Naked all around the world his favourite place is the Caribbean as its one of the few places he feels ok with having no fur.

On our final day at embarkation she was also there at the gangplank to shake hands with everyone and say goodbye- yet again this is something I have not experienced before on an ocean ship. If you are ever lucky enough to be on one of her ships, you will be in for a fab trip that’s for sure.

So if you are ever on a Celebrity Cruise – keep an eye out in case Kate is on board……
