A cruise on board a ship belonging to a major cruise line could be compared  to buying a car, whereby motor manufacturers offer a basic model at a set price, and then tempt you with optional extras.

You may want to have a look at my findings below – see what you think !

  • plan spa treatments for days when the ship is in port- when generally the prices are usually lower.
  • buy a soft drinks package only if you know you are going to be drinking a lot of soft drinks, but buy individually if you have only one or two a day.
  • check and re-check anything you sign for on board.
  • say no to “souvenir” glasses that come with your cocktail.
  • say “no” to extra-cost name-brand ice creams at the pool
  • done use your mobile phone (which can incur excessive roaming charges) except for emergencies.
  • forget the extra costs of Internet and email access- your on holiday…
  • don’t use the ships (extra charge) laundry services- wait till you get home.
  • be really selective about hiring water sports gear at “private islands” beach calls.
  • use a debit card for payment of your on board account (using a credit card could mean you pay more in interest if you don’t pay off the card in full each month.

So you can be careful with your money on board your ship and you don’t have to miss out on things either, just be wise.

Here is one of the best tips too- Book your next cruise whilst still on board the ship you are on, you will find in the last day or two before you return to the UK, the future sales staff will be able to offer you good deals if could be lower cost or more onboard credit. So if you do book again onboard please make sure you give them my contact details.
