Goodbye January… Hello February !!

If you work in the travel industry you will know that January is usually the busiest, most stressful but profitable month of the year, i seen someone post a video the other day on Facebook of her colleagues popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate that January was over.

I was personally disappointed this January ‘peaks’ and was expecting to do a lot more business. I like to think that i give a service that customers cant get elsewhere but sometimes even good service isn’t enough. i understand  that most people work hard for their money and want to get the best deal but i had customers calling me and a competitor back and forth all for the sake of saving a extra £5, Are times really that hard, is BREXIT already affecting our finances ? I feel like sometimes i have to give customers my left arm for a booking.

Things do seem to be looking up, following a meeting between Prime Minister, Theresa May, and new US president, Donald Trump, on January 27th of this year, there has been a sudden recovery in the value of the pound against the dollar. Retail director at foreign exchange specialist No1 Currency, Simon Phillips, has suggested that the increase in value of sterling will help encourage holiday bookings during  ‘peaks’ as the pound has risen to its highest value in the space of six weeks. Cruise.co.uk carried out a survey and asked has the news of the rise in value of the pound encouraged you to book a holiday sooner? the results….

28% Said Yes, we have to make the most of it while it still stands

72% said No, its value is too unreliable- I will carry on as normal

From the results its doesn’t look like many people will be rushing to book their holidays right now, most people have a set time of year they like to book and others just book on impulse when they see a good offer or feel the need to get away. From working in travel for the last 10 years i don’t really think January is always the ‘best’ month to book so here’s to a busy February !!
