We Feared for our lives in Dubai

As some of you may know my wife Eleni and I have just returned from our three night’s stay in Dubai and 7 nights on board The Vision Of The Seas with Royal Caribbean.

We both work here at www.cruise.co.uk and were really excited about booking this cruise and pre – cruise stay. Dubai has always been on our bucket list.

The trip was absolutely amazing and you should look out for my review on the ship and indeed Dubai in detail.

I have to say we got our fair share of Taxi’s in Dubai from The Hotel to the Mall, the Hotel to the Port and indeed the port back to the airport. The cars in Dubai are extremely luxurious and they have created these superb super highways which was certainly forward thinking to create this super City with this kind of infrastructure.

The Roads remind me a lot of America and the traffic is often similar to LA. What I feel they are not doing right over there however is putting peoples lives at Risk everyday.

All Cars in Dubai drive very fast and they drive extremely close to the car in front. There were two separate occasions where cars were cutting us up and our Taxi driver had to slam on the breaks, “We Feared for Our Lives” There was no road rage and it gave us the impression this was an everyday occurrence over there.

What disappointed me the most was that there seemed to be no laws enforced for using phones whilst driving, which concerns me immensely as they have so many super cars such as Lamborghini’s on almost every street.

I will say this about their Taxi’s on a positive note…

They have family and Women only cars which I think is a huge step forward for the safety of Women in general. They also have strict laws regarding needing the meter to be switched on at all times. There is a note in the front of The Taxi which reads “If the Meter is not turned on there is no charge for the Taxi”.

In summery if you are going to Dubai don’t let this blog put you off I would however I would suggest two things before getting in a Taxi. Advise the Taxi Driver you would prefer it if no phones are used throughout the journey and that as you are a little nervous of the roads and can they do their best to not drive very fast.

Look out for My review of The vision Of The Seas and Dubai as a City Break coming soon.
