It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

My wife Eleni and I have just returned for 6 nights away in the heart of The French Alps. For years we have been researching a winter snow holiday in Austria, Switzerland or The French Alps.

Full Disclosure I have no interest in Skiing

Your probably thinking why would you go to one of the best ski villages in December then. Well Chamonix Mont Blanc was the number one destination in Europe for keen ski enthusiasts and Eleni and I wanted to experience the culture of the Apres Ski as I now know it is refereed.

We got to sample the French cuisine and hospitality whist dressing up in our Thermals and woolly hats and ear muffs. We had an alpine style log cabin hotel in the Heart of Chamonix at The Marriott and spent many lazy days wondering the streets and playing in the snow.

It was such a romantic place for us to be together and enjoy a pre Christmas break doing something we have never done before.

The Hotel advised us we had free bus and train travel in Chamonix and Argentierre so we took full advantage and got the train 3 stops to Argentierre where it was 1500 meters altitude. this made all the difference to the snowfall and it was coming down at some rate at heights.

The ski lifts were mostly closed but keen skiers were referring to a few other towns where the lifts had opened. I think we were a couple of weeks too early

The highlight of our trip was a train ride up over 2000 meters in altitude to Montenvers where we had a bucket list moment of looking over the mountains from the hotel and restaurant. a rum hot chocolate or two later and we were heading back down in the fantastic train.

This provider us both with a memory unsurpassed by any other holiday we have been on so far as the sky was so blue the sun was shining and the fresh air and snow on the ground made for the most incredible memories and photos.

Hope you enjoy them.
