I MISS MY MARY

After spending the last quarter of a century cruising on many different cruiselines I though I had found my favourites , ships that had ticked all the boxes and left me returning time and time again. All that changed 4 weeks ago when I embarked on the one and only Queen Mary 2.

I would like to say I am not the typical Cunard passenger and I say this respectfully by meaning that I am a few years younger than the usual passenger for Cunard, but my head has been completely turned on such a stylish and beautiful vessel. From the minute I embarked on a 3 night voyage to Bruges I was impressed by her sheer opulence and her grandeur. She really is something special. Speaking to passengers before I sailed on her the consensus was that people have a special place in their heart for the Queen Mary and I really couldn’t understand why until I was sailing on her myself.

I stayed in an outside cabin forward starboard side on deck 5 and have to say the cabin was alot larger than previous outside cabins I had stayed in, and the bottle of Champagne that greeted me was very much a welcome surprise. Thankyou Cunard.

As this was a pre christmas cruise, well the Christmas decorations certainly didn’t disappoint. She was filled with stunning Christmas Trees but what did surprise me was the attention to detail with decorations. If you ave sailed on her yourself at Christmas you will appreciate the wonderfully erected Gingerbread Village and the little Beatrix Potter figures surrounding the Christmas Trees. They really were beautiful.

I was exploring the ship and all my illusions of her being a little fuddy duddy and old were disappearing by the minute. what a gem she is.

Service in Britannia restaurant was fantastic and this is where I ate for both lunch and dinner. the food was delicious and we had lots of fun with the waiters who had great sense of humour’s. The main buffet restaurant in which I had breakfast wasn’t the best for choice if I am honest but not being much of an early eater it didn’t put me off,

The total surprise to me though was the entertainment on board, whether you danced in the most amazing ballroom to a live band or decided to dance the night away in G32 which of course I did the nightlife on board was great. I spent alot of time pre and post dinner in the Golden Lion where I was told there was Karaoke . Karaoke on Cunard ?? I was dumbfounded, as a singer myself it was only fair that I decided to give this ago, now when I say singer I say it loosely.

Sailing on Queen Mary 2 was a total surprise and I had a total misconception of her completely , she had the ultimate in style and she was alot of fun also. I am already planning my next trip to sail on her and this time it wont just be for three nights. If I could change anything about her it would be the design as I couldn’t get off the ship at one point I was in between deck 2 and 3 for ages to find how to disembark or maybe I just didn’t want too.

Thanks Cunard for a great memorable cruising experience
