Christmas on Cunard…….

I have just returned from our Christmas conference which this year was 03 nights on probably the most famous ship there is……….Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, where Christmas is most certainly present! The Queen Mary 2 entered service in January 2004 and her facilities include fifteen restaurants and bars (I tried all of the bars for research purposes of course), five swimming pools, a casino, a ballroom, a theatre, and the first planetarium at sea. 

I had a great weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bruges, where I stocked up on plenty of Belgian Chocolate to guarantee me a place in my wife’s good books well into the new year!

I enjoyed the Queen Mary too but the food on board left me feeling less than festive, don’t get me wrong there was nothing wrong with it, cooked well , good quality and it was OK , but that’s it …it was just ok.  I suppose I’ve been spoilt having been with Silversea and Oceania who have undoubtedly the best reputation for onboard cuisine.

For those of you who would worry would a Christmas cruise leave you feeling like you are missing out on all the Christmas festivities and decorations you have at home, there was certainly no lack of Christmas spirit on board .

My children were so  impressed with the photos i showed them of the the chefs annual gingerbread village. Its worth knowing that this time of year all three Cunard ships will be decorated with greenery, including trees, wreaths, ornaments, nutcracker soldiers, poinsettias , gingerbread cottages and twinkling lights.

Cunard is more traditional than the other cruise lines but its not over the top, the 03 nights we were onboard were all classed as ‘casual’ but men were still required to wear jackets into the Britannia restaurant in the evenings.

I had a fab weekend on board and would recommend these little Christmas getaways to anyone , ideal for Christmas shopping or just getting into the spirit of Christmas without the hectic shops, rubbish TV and queues for a car parking space!
