Genting Hong Kong splash out $550 million on Crystal

And into the bargain they promise to add a new ship to the two vessel ultra-luxury fleet by 2018 along with expanding its offerings to guests and staff alike.

For any loyal cruisers who may be reading this, there is no need for any concern as the current management team will continue to head up the six star line while Genting will offer extra finance and their expertise in order to expand this highly successful brand.

Established in 1993, Genting Hong Kong is part of the Genting Group which runs hospitality and leisure businesses in more than 20 countries. They are not newbies in the world of cruising, already owning Star Cruises and being a major shareholder in Norwegian Cruise Lines too.

Now, something rings a bell here – didn’t NCL buy Regent Seven Seas and Oceania in Autumn 2014? So, this is all starting to look like Genting making a major move on cruise lines. Could they be heading for cruise world domination?

It will certainly be interesting to see what changes, if any given that the management team is not changing, take place at Crystal. They have promised a seamless transition which Crystal guests who already have cruises booked will surely welcome. The only change will be that Genting Executive Chairman, and former Chairman of NCL, Tam Sri Lim Kok Thay,  will now take over as Chairman of Crystal. We could see Blue Man Group performing on Serenity yet!
