Trumped At The Post!

Oh Dear!  That was a bit of a shock wasnt it?  No one expected Trump to win, but win he did!  The American people have spoken, and the Clinton supporters will have to rally together with the majority of voters to support their 45th President of the United States.

Good Luck to America, I hope he comes good for everyone’s sake.

I have been vaguely interested in what’s been happening across the pond, and from what I have seen across the media,  my vote would have gone to Hillary.  That said, Trump is King, so how is this going to affect the Dollar in your pocket?

I’ve had a couple of conversations with my clients over the past 24hrs who are concerned that the dollar rate is going to affect their decision as to which cruise line they are going to choose for their next holiday.

One passenger, who has just returned from a 13 night holiday on board the Eclipse, was faced with a huge drinks bill of over £1300, and he’d bought a drinks package on board thinking it would work out cheaper for him.  Unfortunately for him it didnt.  He also said that prices on board were in Dollars and therefore he found  the prices were steep.  As an aside, he also mentioned the pressure selling adopted on board, especially toward the end of the cruise where passengers were constantly bombarded with $ale! $ale! $ale wherever they went.  Which put a dampener on the cruise.

Perhaps Celebrity were also dreading the outcome of the US Elections?

As far as my client is concerned his next cruise will be with a UK based cruiseline, P&O, where its Sterling on board and drinks prices are cheaper.

It does pose a question though, what with the fallout from Brexit and the falling pound against other currencies, will this latest groundbreaking and historic event affect the pound in your pocket and your choice of cruise operators?

Only time will tell.
