I’ve got the baby blues….

Or should that be pink?

I’m not known for my patience so I am on tenterhooks waiting for the impending arrival of a new grandchild!

Baby is due on 18th October and in preparation for his/her arrival, I hosted a Baby Shower for my daughter last weekend!  We themed it around Afternoon Tea, providing finger sandwiches, an assortment of cakes and of course tea (served in a teapot!).  As well as Pimms (As it’s always Pimms o’clock round ours) and some fizzy bubbly.

These Baby Showers are yet another occasion we’ve adopted from our friends across the pond, together with Wedding Showers, Divorce Showers, you name, it, there seems to be a ‘Shower’ to go with it!

In the heat of the moment, I offered to bake cupcakes – from scratch – not shop bought!   Now anyone that knows me can tell you that baking and I are not the best of friends, and I am as good at baking as I am at sewing.  I blame my mother, who never got round to teaching me these traditional skills, as she was too busy seizing the day!  Her opinion is that they’re cheap enough to buy so why bake or make them, when you could be enjoying more interesting pursuits. (Mum – 80 yrs old next week… has in the past been Micro Lighting, Paragliding, Parasailing, White Water Rafting, Sulphur Mud Bath dipping and Water Skiing!  You catch my drift….)

So… back to the Baby Shower!  I enlisted the help of my eldest daughter and after a couple of false starts, and ruined batches,   (The dog didn’t go hungry and kept a very close eye on the proceedings…), we produced what I would consider 20 mini masterpieces!

The guests arrived and the festivities began!  As is the tradition, a few games were played.

Guess the Celebrity Baby name – harder than you think!

Predict the sex, weight, and birth date of the baby..

A-Z of things associated with babies.  (This produced quite a few surprising answers, as weren’t allowed to list baby names.  Far too easy!

especially for the letters ‘V’ & ‘P’ I’ll leave that to your imagination… clue: the 2 most important things needed in the production!

And my favourite!  Put the dummy in the baby’s mouth!  A twist on the game of blind man’s bluff.

With a prize of a bottle of bubbly and box of chocolates to the winner! Not me I’m afraid, as you can see…

We had a great afternoon, lots of chatter and laughter and I am very pleased to say that my cupcakes went down a storm!  I may have found another string to my bow…..

Now then….. My granddaughter turns 18 next month, I wonder if she likes cupcakes?
