How Much For A Shore Excursion?

So how much is too much when it comes to shore excursions?  Some people don’t book them at all, deeming that they can do a lot of the activities offered by the cruise lines at a fraction of the cost offered.  Others will rely solely on the cruise line excursions, after all what is more convenient of having someone take you to all the attractions you want to see and do in your allotted time in port.

When looking at excursions, they can cost you as little or as much as you like, depending on the amount of detail that you want out of them.  But there is one shore excursion that has been introduced by Royal Caribbean that will make even the most generous of wallets cower in fear…

Jewel of the Seas, when based in Dubai will be offering a shore excursion costing a whopping £26,000 called the Ultimate Shopaholic.  No, i haven’t gone made with the zeros there.

To be fair if there was ever an excursion that would cost that much, it would could only be in Dubai.  The city of opulence and grandeur that seems to be almost gold plated throughout!

What do you get for your £26,000 you might ask?  Well lets see if you think there’s value for money to be had.

You will offer a style consultation with private hair and makeup sessions, as well as a three and a half hour session at a spa, plus A three-course meal at the Burj Al Arab, the world’s tallest building.  Followed by A shopping trip at the Dubai Mall will be enjoyed with a personal shopper. But don’t think you have an free shopping spree in there, anything you purchase isn’t included in your excursion price.

What do you think?  A snatch at the price?

Erm, personally I am really not convinced and can’t see this appealing to too many (if any) of Royal Caribbean’s guests to be honest.  But I could be wrong.

What are your thoughts though.  Are you going to get your Ultimate Shopaholic booked next time you’re in Dubai?

  1. How many cruises could I have for this amount of money ?. Holidays are more important

  2. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, The Burj Al Arab is the seven star hotel shaped like a sail, which I hope to stay in one day !!

  3. Burj Al Arab is a fabulous 6 star hotel and is not the world’s tallest building . Currently that still remains the Burj Khalifa.

  4. If I had that much money to waste don’t really think I’d be on a Royal Caribbeans ship

  5. Sorry George, Burj Al Arab not the worlds tallest building – in Dubai the Burj Khalifa is the tallest by far, being more than twice the height of the Burj al Arab. This was the worlds first 7 * hotel though. Even so, you can eat there for less than this excursion seems to imply from its price – having done this for a special birthday treat when holidaying in Dubai!
I don’t see anything that special in this, you can book personal shopping experiences in department stores at home, spa, including hair and makeup sessions so, in my opinion, certainly not worth the cost, unless money no object. The fact it’s Dubai is the only difference, but then a trip to Dubai is not as exclusive as it once was so you can do a trip and have a holiday there for less than this excursion!!

  6. As it happens – I have been to the Burg Al Arab and it is a lovely building with beautiful food – but of course, it is not the worlds tallest building – you must mean the Burg Khalifa also in Dubai ….. Travel companies should get their facts right …
