Bye Bye Toffee Deluxe

I needed to write this week about my utter shock that at Nestle announcing that they are retiring the Toffee Deluxe from boxes of quality street!

Now I know the initial statement might not be all that shocking in itself, but stay with me! But in recent weeks where we have had the big fall out over the Great British Bake off moving to Channel 4 and Brad and Angelina announcing their divorce out of the blue, this is the final straw.

What annoys me about this announcement about quality street is of the memories that I myself, along with I’m sure many other people, at Christmas time without fail my Nanna would go in the cupboard and pull out a tin of Quality Street for us all to share.  Now I was always that child who went straight for the fruit creams and the caramel sweets first before my brothers and sisters got there!  Over the years I have noticed as well that the tins have gotten smaller and smaller, till now when it feels like you only get two of everything in the box.

Gone are the days when the box that Nanna would produce would last well in to the new year.  Yeah, after boxing day the only ones that were left were the toffee penny, coconut one and the toffee deluxe that that have just announced that they are retiring.  so no it wasn’t my favourite, but it was, was a piece of my childhood that I feel has been messed with, and for this I object.

Well Nestle company, I think this year we will be jumping away from the Quality Street sdhip having Roses instead.  Although these are still in a smaller tin, at least you know what you’re getting and have the untouched memories to go with it.
