Comparing worst food on Cruise Ships

When people compare cruise lines food is always quite a big topic of conversation, and something you seem to remember well about your cruising experience.  Doug Ward the author of the Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising has recently put in his new book that Royal Caribbean are the worst cruise line for food and service.
He rated Royal Caribbean 5 out of 10 for the dining room, afternoon Tea and wine list saying that it was very poor.  I would certainly not rate Royal Caribbean like this at all I have always found when I have been onboard that there food and service has been very good.  Other cruise lines mentioned for Poor Food were Costa and NCL.  The cruise lines marked the highest for food were Celebrity Cruise Lines, Cunard and Princess Cruises.  I can certainly see why these cruise lines were marked high as their service and quality of food is very good.  I am quite surprised with Doug’s marks on Royal Caribbean as so many people return time and time again on Royal Caribbean and if their food was that bad people wouldn’t keep cruising on them.  At the end of the day this is one persons view on how they compare all the cruise lines.  Everyone will always have their own views and opinions.  Have you sailed with Royal Caribbean and how would you rate their food and service?

  1. I have to agree with the gentleman that gave a poor rating for food on Royal Caribbean. I have been on three Royal Caribbean ships and two were in the last eight years. They can’t serve a hot meal if their lives depended on it and the food just did not taste good. I was on The Liberty Of The Seas when it was the largest ship afloat and they did not even serve rack of lamb, which I got on the Carnival Fascination, a tiny old ship in comparison. The lunch menu was exactly the same every day in the dining room, which I found to be absolutely ridiculous. I was not impressed one iota with my meals, whereas I would leave the dinner table on the Princess Cruises thoroughly impressed with what just transpired.

  2. Is’nt it strange how people have different views on food, as i found ROYAL CARIBBEAN(twice navigator and once independance of the seas) was extremley high standard and didnt recieve one bad meal and i was
impressed with the staff making everyone use the hygiene sanatizers before entering any meal areas. As for CUNARD i have heard bad reviews for food on the QUEEN Mary but i went on the QE2 and the food was absolutly outstanding simply 6 star all the way from the inroom dining to the buffet and the restaurants,P&O AND PRINCESS to me were nothing special to report just average but my boyfriend struggled with princess food he was not impressed. so does it just depend on the ship and there staff rather than cruise line?
