Up on the roof… Walking above the stars

This was definitely an experience not for the faint hearted… I have long dreamed of climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge – but until I get to Australia this is probably the next best thing, and much nearer to home.

Some of you may have seen this on television as I understand it featured recently on a London based soap opera but did you know that you can walk over the top of the O2… ?

As the safety briefing stated many great stars have performed to packed crowds at the O2 in London and we were basically going to be walking “above the stars”.

I also learnt a lot about the design of the O2, original constructed as the Millennium dome.

That there are 12 support towers – One to represent each month of the year or each hour in the clock face

It is 365 metres in diameter (One metre for each day of a standard year)

The Canopy is 52 metres high in the middle – one metre for each week of the year..

The climb – Up at the O2 actually opened in 2012 and involves walking along a 190 metre long walkway suspended above the O2 roof.  With a halfway point of a central platform providing magnificent 360 degree views of the city – and time for an expensive glass of champagne and some photos before starting the descent.

It was quite a challenging climb, in more ways than one, as I am really not too great on heights but I am so glad that I did this experience.

Next time you are stuck for a gift idea – or want an adrenaline rush yourself – why not give this a go.
