River Cruising – Have you tried it… ?

So this is another sector of the cruise market that has seen a huge boost, River Cruising… it is a whole different pace and takes you into the heart of the country and some wonderful towns and cities… Have you tried a river cruise ?, is it something that you would consider ?

Following my recent post about the TV series featuring Jane McDonald, on Friday’s episode she embarked on a river cruise sailing the Danube,  She sailed on the SS Maria Teresa with Uniworld which was a truly beautiful luxury river cruise ship.  Sailing from Budapest to Passau and taking in the beautiful views along the Danube river, also including a visit to the stunning city of Vienna.

You couldn’t help but be moved by the tear jerking story of the shoes on the Danube sculpture in memory of the victims shot into the river by arrow cross militiamen in 1944-45 which Jane visited whilst in Budapest.  A visit to the opera in Vienna, some spectacular architecture and with many River Cruises staying in the hearts of  the town & city until late in the evening giving you a great opportunity to really explore the local culture.

I have not personally sailed a river cruise – it is on my ever growing wish list – but I have done a city break to Prague and the scenery bought back some great memories of my trip there.
