Suprise maiden call for Queen Elizabeth!

If you visit my blog regularly you may remember I was recently on holiday in Marmaris in Turkey, home to the Thomson Celebration throughout the summer season.

Not many cruise liners visit Marmaris at all, despite having a port area, harbour plenty of shops, bars restaurants and beach area.

Last week due to bad weather the Queen Elizabeth was due to dock in Rhodes, but had to divert to Marmaris instead, making this her maiden call at the Turkish port.

To look at Marmaris’s port area looks relatively small and I would never have guessed that a large ship such as the Queen Elizabeth would be able to fit into the port area!

Marmaris is a sheltered natural harbour offering pretty views of the green mountains surrounding the resort, but she obviously has the capacity for the Queen Elizabeth so maybe this will encourage her to come back or more of the larger cruise liners to include Marmaris on their itinerary’s.

I am sure the stop was a great welcome for the locals running the markets shops bars and restaurants around the port area and families could even visit the nearby waterpark located on the beachfront in Marmaris.

I hope to see more ships back in Marmaris in the future!
