NCL phd@sea part 1

I am now back from a jam packed 2 night trip hosted by the fantastic NCL cruises!

We only had a short time, 2 nights to pack in as many activities as we could and I can safely say I can back totally exhausted and after catching up on my sleep I am now feeling refreshed and back in the office!

I wanted to tell you a little more about this brilliant trip and experience and our first day and night was not spent on a ship surprisingly, we flew to Palma, Majorca to spend a day and evening in this very beautiful city!

I have been to Majorca maybe 10 times plus over the years staying at pretty much every holiday resort going but I have never been to Palma itself. After a very early flight out I made my way to our hotel for the evening the Tryp Bosque hotel in central Palma. I checked in to the twin room which looked over the front of the hotel with a large terrace area, for a short break in Palma I would definitely stay here again due to its great location and there was a pool area which unfortunately i didn’t get to use !

After checking in it was time to head out to meet the rest of our group ( 18 in total ) at the Font de san joan restaurant, the walk to the restaurant was around 20 minutes, in the glorious sunshine we followed a map through the cobbled streets to find the restaurant, I hadn’t pictured Palma being as historical ! We eventually found this amazing restaurant for our tapas lunch! I really would 100% recommend and if I am ever in Palma again I will be paying a visit to Font de san joan!

After lunch we headed out to take in the sights of Palma including the magnificent cathedral, La llonja which looks a little like a castle and a church rolled into one but it is actually neither and then onto passeig des born a long street filled with designer shops and boutiques which is a shoppers paradise!

After a quick turnaround at the hotel we were then set for our evening activity, which to be honest we all thought may be a little cheesy and didn’t have the highest hopes for but we were proved very wrong! we headed out to Magaluf where there is a very popular and long running show you may have heard of, pirates! Upon arrival e collected our VIP passes, were handed a glass of bubbly and headed into the venue, which was pretty huge with a large stage area shaped with a pirate ship and long wooden tables where all of the guests sit for their evening meal, drinks and to watch the show. the meal was good, although a strange combination of chicken, sausages, ships and coleslaw, not sure where the sausages came into that combination! then the show started which really was fantastic with acrobats and dancers flying all over the stage , there was plenty of humour as well which really made the show!

We headed back to Palma and onto a very quirky back street cocktail bar that you would never even know existed ! From the outside there are huge wooden doors and a small sign , Abaco, well once you enter it’s like being transported into a different era! With opera music playing in the back ground, fruit scattered all over the floor and huge flower displays it is really somewhere you have to see to appreciate! Ok its only worth staying for maybe 1 drink as the cocktails are 16 euros each so make sure you savour the moment but what a great experience!

We then headed of back to the hotel ready to get up bright and early the next morning as we would be off to the NCL Epic, exciting!

Part 2 to follow.
