MSC Bellissima – my thoughts

I had the true honour of being invited on board MSC Bellissima for part of it’s inauguration in Southampton this past weekend, and although the weather didn’t play ball, the sun certainly shone in my eyes.

I’ve always been critical of MSC due to a number of areas of their on board experience being somewhat behind the times in competition with their rival cruise lines.

Well let me tell you, I no longer hold this belief after witnessing a true marvel of engineering. A 1 BILLION Euro vessel that truly blew my socks off.

I’d been on a total of 6 ship visits with MSC all of which consisted of eating in the main dining room. As I had the chance to stay on board I knew it was prime opportunity to sample the buffet, just as if I was a regular cruiser who had too much fun on the jet-ski’s in the Caribbean and just couldn’t be bothered to dress up for dinner (happened to me more than once).

I will say, the selection, quality and quantity of food on offer in the Market Place buffet was a true elating feeling. Food from different countries, styles and tastes of course end up on your plate followed by tempting desserts and a good old cup of Yorkshire Tea (yes, really) to wash it all down.

The other main part of my Bellissima experience was the overwhelming technology that goes into YOUR cruise experience. The new MSC for me app made check in and browsing opening times a breeze and was easy to use and understand. My favourite bit of technology? The Virtual Reality Maze, it really has to be experienced to be believed, I was transported into a different world, shooting a flaming crossbow at resurrected skeletons trying to attack me. It was beyond realistic and is definitely something I would spend a fair few hours trying out!

So Bellissima, you have my seal of approval, I am beyond no doubt that I will be stepping on board again one day very soon.
