Should you book the worst seat on the plane?

Working here at cruise.co I like to think I have my finger on the pulse and hopefully hear things in travel that can help a lot of my customers with unusual tips abroad.

This week has been completely eye opening for me as I have had a very big month for customer departures as is always the case in Jan and Feb.

In speaking to customers prior to their return and of course before departure I have noted recently a bone of contention with flight seat costs.

This is no surprise a lot of the long haul and short haul airlines make a lot of money on preferential seating choices not just to sit next to a loved one but everyone likes to pick a seat next to a window or isle or if like me you don’t like asking others to move to pop to the facilities I tend to choose a seat with less interruption etc…

This week I spoke to a gentleman who insist on booking “the worst seat on the aircraft” in his view its the cheap seats at the back with nobody behind and close to the toilet.

His view is that nobody tends to pay to book those seats as people assume if they pick front of aircraft they will be first on first off. secondly in his view there are no people kicking those chairs behind you and nobody tends to want to be at the back near potentially smelly toilets with doors smashing closed.

His experience is usually pleasant with often three seats to himself so he has been able to stretch out and enjoy the experience, furthermore he pays far less for booking this seat as apposed to the ones mid flight.

I am torn on this one I can see the logic but I would be keen to hear your thoughts.

This week another customer mentioned to me the importance of checking the aircraft i.e. on the A380 he has found a knack of picking seats in the upper levels of the aircraft close to the business class seats but you would need to get in early as they are extra popular.

How deep is your knowledge of aircraft seating and is it really worth all that extra cash?
