Karaoke Final On-board the Allure – Would You Brave It?

I was speaking with a customer yesterday who was searching for the RIGHT cruise for them, I always like to ask what they like to do whilst cruising and what have been their past experiences onboard the ships they have previously been on. I really love to hear other peoples stories about cruising for many reasons…….

1st Reason : It’s great to gain a much more in-depth understanding of what they enjoy doing on board. This helps me to narrow down the search for them a little more when they start with a much more broader search. By doing this, it allows me understand the Avatar of my customer much better.

2nd Reason : I like to find out more from customers, great things, I too can pass onto other customers if travelling on the same ship or itinerary, whether that be an amazing specialty restaurant they tried, an incredible excursions they went on, or even the entertainment they found to make there holiday, different from the last. All of this information can completely change a search right from the offset.

Whilst speaking with this customer, I was asked my what my experiences had been onboard a cruise ship and what I enjoy doing. I advised them just some of the things I love so much about cruising, just to name a few, sunbathing, maybe a little flutter in the casino, a few cocktails or two, speciality dining, formal nights, ice skating (on certain ships) but most of all….I absolutely love Karaoke at sea.

I have always been a Huge fan of karaoke but never in large crowds, only in a small pub would I usually get up and sing a song or two, however…. whilst onboard the Royal Caribbean, Allure of the seas back in 2015, in the “On Air” bar, I decided after a couple of cocktails to get up and sing an “Adele” Number. Me being me, I honestly did not take myself seriously however it seemed everyone else did! When the karaoke came to an end I was informed that I was through to the semi final of the competition! WHAAAT! I did not realise this was a competition, I think I may have missed this part when getting my next cocktail at the bar, hahaha. Ok, so at this point I was getting very nervous about the fact that I would be singing again and that my next song would be performed in-front of a large crowd, with the audience actually marking me. So the day came, and the semi finals were up and running. I have got to say, I honestly did not know how I was even in this competition when comparing myself to the other outstanding talent that there was. I choose another song that I love ” Heaven, by DJ Sammy” slow version. I remember being on stage and thinking (what Am I doing). I sang my little heart out! PHEW I could now breath, it was over.

It then came down to the audience marking each contestant and, don’t tell me how I managed it… but….wait for it…. I got through to the FINAL with two other contestants! OMG, this could not be happening. I was in shock. How could I be in the final. I was shell-shocked.

Anyway to cut the long story short, I  did not win, in fact the person who won was brilliant but I did come 2nd which I was more that happy with. If I am honest this helped me to, just slightly put my fears aside that I had, and I had the best time (Other than terrible nerves).

The Moto of my story here, is there really is so something for everyone to do whilst onboard a cruise. So what ever your passion is, I challenge you to “step outside of your comfort zone and try this at sea”

I look forward to hearing your stories…
