Top tips to stay safe in Port

It has been reported recently on various websites about the safety of passengers whilst in certain Worldwide cruise ports.

 

Critics are saying it should be the agents responsibility to ‘Warn’ clients about recent crimes that are happening in the areas they will be visiting. I am all for giving the right advice, but can you imagine the types of conversations we would have? ,’ just to inform you Mrs Jones, I know you will be looking forward to visiting the Caribbean on your dream holiday, but did you know a man was shot dead in Montego Bay there last week  the day after a drive by shooting in Barbados, you next port of call’

 

My view is that crime happens all around us, wherever you are. If the Economy is sluggish with high unemployment, you are bound to cause an interest to the locals. The smart thing to do would be a bit of research before you cruise.Get a feel of the areas you will be visiting.

Jamaica for instance, is a very popular port of call for many different cruise lines. A result of the high unemployment and poor living standards in some areas the locals can sometimes get a bit aggressive when trying to sell their merchandise. These tips aren’t meant to scare people but just be aware of your surrounding and stay safe.

 

 

When trying to save a bit of money doing some local excursions, remember where you are. Don’t be tempted to wonder off the beaten track. Stay with an organised party. Many areas can lead to very ‘unsafe’ areas very quickly.

  • Only carry with you what is necessary
  • Leave valuables in the safety of your cabin safe.
  • Avoid, where possible to look like a tourist.

There are many beautiful places to visit in the world and to many it is their dream holiday! Just remember my valuable tips and you wont go far wrong.
