Should smoking on board be banned?

So this is a bit of a controversial one. If you are a non smoker like me then you may agree with me that smoking onboard in all areas should be banned. However the smokers out there I think will disagree.

As I am not a smoker and never have been I just cant stand it. I understand that most ships have designated areas and some will let you smoke on your balcony. For me the smell is left lingering way after someone has left the area. I also understand that this is an addiction for most people that smoke and the thought of going day and night without having a cigarette or cigar would be enough to put them off cruising or going any where that involves a long time without smoking. I feel that if smokers can fly on a long haul flight for that long without needing to light up then surely you can do it on your cruise.

Here are some of the cruises you can smoke on and there policies.

P&O. You can smoke in certain open decks however it is prohibited in all enclosed spaces including cabins and balconies.

Cunard. Smoking, including smoking of e-cigarettes, is only permitted in designated areas of the starboard side of open decks, and in certain bars and lounges. Passengers may also smoke e-cigarettes in cabins and on balconies. Smoking is not permitted in cabins, on balconies or in any indoor public area with the exception of Queen Victoria’s Churchill’s Cigar Lounge (cigars and pipes only) and the upper level of the G32 nightclub on Queen Mary 2. Smoking is also prohibited in the Casino Bar as well as the entire casino area. The obvious — elevators, theaters, the library, restaurants — are likewise nonsmoking spaces.

Royal Caribbean. Where You Can Smoke: On all Royal Caribbean ships, smoking is permitted in designated areas of the open decks. (For most ships, this will be on the starboard side; on Oasis-class ships, it’s on the port side.) Casino Royale allows smoking, but has designated nonsmoking areas as well. Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas offer one indoor smoking venue apiece.

Smoking is prohibited in all cabins and on all balconies. All inside public spaces (with the exception of the two ships mentioned above) are nonsmoking, as are the Central Park and Boardwalk neighborhoods on Oasis-class ships. Electronic cigarettes are only permitted within designated smoking areas.

Cigar and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas and cigar bars, called the Connoisseur Club. Connoisseur Clubs can be found on Freedom-class and Voyager-class ships. Cigarette smoking is not allowed in the Connoisseur Club.

These are 3 of the main cruises liners or where you can and where you cant smoke however all the liners have different rules.

I would love to hear from smokers and non smokers out there. Smokers would it put you off from cruising if it was banned full stop. Non smokers do you agree with me that it should be banned or do you think the cruise liners have got it right?
