I have been hiding a huge secret!! Ssh! Don’t tell anybody.

I have been working in the travel industry for the last 10 years and have been lucky enough to see some of the most exotic countries around the world. You would think the by now I would be fine with the travel, well you thought wrong! Ever since I can remember I have suffered with awful travel sickness, especially sea sickness. Sometimes it has been so bad it has almost put me off from going away. As you can imagine this has caused some incredibly awkward moments. The good news is, today I’m going to talk about many different things that have helped me get to where I am today. Although I haven’t been able to eliminate this completely, I am well on the way. Here are my top recommendations.

Two things  You should always pack before your cruise.

1; Sea bands. These are bands that you put on your wrists and apply pressure on your lower arm. I know you may think I’m crazy but these do work.

2; Travel sickness tablets. I take 2 of these 2 hours before travel, then every 8 hours. I prefer the Boots own branded bands although I have been recommended Stugeron.

Tips for preventing sea sickness.

1; Always look out to the horizon and sit facing forwards where possible.

2; Get plenty of fresh air.

3; Distract Yourself.

4; Don’t over eat. This will not sit well in the stomach.  Stick to safe foods that aren’t too spicy or acidic. I would advice eating foods which include Ginger and peppermint as these are natural remedies.

5; A stiff drink to calm your nerves is NOT advisable.

Speaking from experience I can confirm that sleeping on a balcony is not a good idea. As appealing as the fresh air seems at the time it A) Is as uncomfortable as it sounds, B) It really does get cold in the middle of the ocean at 4am and C) You have paid for a bed, you may as well sleep in it.

So there you have it. The secret is out. I am a sea sickness suffering cruise agent with Jelly legs rather than sea legs. How ridiculous! That’s like Mark Zukerberg not using Facebook or Richard Branson flying with BA.
