The Nieuw Kid on the Block!

I’ve been green with envy recently.. I have seen many photos on Facebook of cruise industry figures enjoying Holland America Line’s brand new ship, the ms Nieuw Statendam on a shakedown cruise from Venice. Reading everyone’s comments about the staterooms, the entertainment, amazing on board activities and seeing their amazing photos has made me add this new ship to my ever growing must cruise list!

A sister ship to the equally stunning ms Koningsdam and the second Pinnacle-Class ship, the Nieuw Statendam will blow your mind! Carrying just 2,666 guests, the ms Nieuw Statendam will initially be based in Fort Lauderdale and will offer a selection of 7 night Caribbean itineraries with select 3, 4 & 10 night options too. Moving to Amsterdam in Summer 2019, the ship will offer in-depth itineraries to the Norwegian Fjords & Baltic’s so if you’d prefer not to cruise from Southampton, there is an alternative! Perhaps combine a city stay in Amsterdam with a cruise?

Many of the Pinnacle-class hallmarks have been repeated on board including B.B. King’s Blues Club at the Queen’s Lounge, a two-tiered Lido pool with a movie screen and the popular French-style brasserie Sel de Mer. You can even blend your own wine at BLEND under the watchful eye of a wine expert, a tasting table accommodates just 10 guests who can create their own blend from a selection of five barrels of red wine.

You will also find other Holland America Line favourites on board such as the Pinnacle Grill steakhouse and the Greenhouse Spa & Salon. I was lucky enough to travel to Amsterdam in 2016 as a guest of Holland America Line to take a guided tour of the Koningsdam and in my opinion, the Greenhouse Spa is one of the best spa’s at seas!

Interior Staterooms

The ms Nieuw Statendam has 280 interior staterooms ranging from 225 to 266 square feet. If you are on a budget, this will be the best option for you.

Verandah Staterooms

If you are looking to splash out a bit more then a Verandah Stateroom is well worth the extra money, imagine watching the world go by from the comfort of your own private balcony! There are 851 Verandah Staterooms on board so lots of choice!
