NCL make a stand against discrimination

On Sunday 9th March the NCL Jade pulled into its scheduled port of  La Goulette in Tunisia. Once the ship arrived in port the government of Tunisia refused to allow Israeli nationals to disembark.

In response to this act, Norwegian Cruise Line announced they have cancelled all remaining calls to Tunisia and will not return to the port.

They have released the following statement by Kevin Sheehan, NCL CEO:

“we want to send a strong message to Tunisia and ports around the world that we will not tolerate such random acts of discrimination against our guests. We are outraged by this act and the fact that we were not notified in advance of this practice. We apologise sincerely to our guests who were affected and want them to know that we have taken the appropriate action in response.”

The support for the cruise lines stance has been over whelming. As to date 3,717 have ‘liked’ their post on Facebook in just over 2 hours and over 300 comments from customers, travel professionals and staff are in full support with many thanking them for standing up for not only Israeli Nationals but any passenger of theirs as who knows what nationality will be on their ‘black list’ next.

So well done NCL for making the stand and putting customer’s before everything else, they have certainly come off the better. The only losers here are the Tunisian people who rely on tourism for their income. Not the greatest decision Tunisia!!
