Heavy Sleeper locked on board empty plane

I have been off for a few days and was catching up on some Travel and Cruise news when I came across the strangest article on CNN’s website. Tom Wagner was flying from Louisiana to California with a connection in Houston. With a long connection time ahead he decided to have a snooze at the back of the plane. He woke up and the aircraft was in complete darkness. He got up from his comfy window seat and quickly realised he was locked on board. All the passengers had disembarked, the crew had done their, ahem, safety checks on board and tooted off to their crew room and no one had noticed sleeping beauty snoring away down the back!! He had to call his girlfriend and get them to contact United Airlines to get someone to go back to the aircraft and let him out. He got a nice $250 future flight credit, a lovely hotel stay in Houston and a flight the next morning for his troubles – oh and a fantastic story to tell the world about.

So this story started me thinking – what weird and wonderful thing have you left behind on an aircraft? No stories about leaving people or babies behind (yes it actually has happened) as poor Tom has that crown this week.

Skyscanner conducted a survey this summer with 700 cabin crew over 83 countries taking part. Some of the things reported are truly astonishing and I have a top ten of my favourite below:
  1. Prosthetic Leg
  2. Glass Eye
  3. Parrot
  4. A bag of diamonds
  5. A single shoe
  6. A Toupee
  7. A set of handcuffs
  8. A Urn containing someone’s ashes
  9. A wedding dress
  10. A Large bag of sand

I can’t even get a pair of tweezers on a plane and yet people are managing to get handcuffs, parrots and bags of sand on board – seriously!!!

So what about you? Any stories to tell about weird and random articles left behind either on planes or cruise ships. If you do please comment below or on my Facebook or Google Plus page. I will collate any info I get and do an updated top ten list in January. Lets see if anyone can knock that Parrot off it’s perch in the top ten!!
