Titanic II – Luxury cruise or Titanic Sized Nightmare!

Clive Palmer, an Australian business man, politician and millionaire, is still planning to recreate the Titanic and plans are afoot for its maiden voyage in April 2016 from Southampton to New York.

He recently announced that along with the ship being recreated in the same specifications as the original that also conditions onboard would also be recreated to portray the different classes.

“First class on the Titanic was truly unbelievable, second class was like our first class and third class – well third class was really third class,” Mr Palmer said.

Mr Palmer plans on first class cabins being lined with rich mahogany bulk heads but in order to stay true to the class system he also has to recreate third class and who is going to pay to be tarts as a third class citizen or more correctly, steerage.

Many of these cabins will be replicated below the water line in cramped conditions and the menu also represents a huge challenge.

“The Titanic original design had an area under the water line two decks high and 40ft (12m) long simply marked “potatoes,” Mr Palmer says.

He is planning on serving different variations of stew and potatoes and obviously the higher class the more meat in your stew!!

The final straw for me was when he intimated that all steerage passengers would be deloused upon reaching New York.

“And they will be deloused,” Mr Palmer said.

“We might spray them with a hose full of confetti but they will have to have the experience.”

I think this is one experience that I will gladly miss on this occasion.

What do you think? Madman or visionary? Would you pay to sail on Titanic II?
