Can you escape on Escape?

Norwegian Cruise Lines debut their largest ever ship this week – the Norwegian Escape – in Southampton. She arrives on the 27th October for 2 nights of showcasing to both the public and the trade before heading off to her homeport of Miami where she will be christened by a singer called Pitbull!!

At 164000 tons she is still way behind the gargantuans of Royal Caribbean who top the scales at 225000 tons. Norwegian Escape will hold just over 4000 passengers and I am lucky enough to be one of them on Wednesday.

Entertainment wise she will have two Broadway shows on board – After Midnight and Million Dollar Quartet – which recently won Tony awards. Headliners comedy club is also back where stand up and improvisation is the name of the game – can get a little rude at times so if you are faint hearted avoid this venue. Another venue is The Brat Pack at The Supper Club which is where you have a cabaret style show while dining. My personal favourite is Howl At The Moon where there are duelling pianos and normally a sing-a-long. Great atmosphere.

Dining is what really sets Norwegian apart although be careful as many incur extra charges but are worth the few extra dollars. From old favourites like Cagneys Steakhouse and Teppanyaki to the Tapas Bar and Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville At Sea where they serve the best burgers at sea there is a dining option for everyone.

Bars are plentiful with O Sheehans Neighbourhood Bar (named after the CEO of Norwegian) along as new kids on the block such as the District Brew House and the 5 O clock Somewhere Bar!! This is my motto on every cruise to enjoy a cocktail at any time of the day as it is always 5 0 clock somewhere. If you want somewhere to go with no kids then head to Spice H2O which is adults only.

Finally to keep young and young at heart amused if they dare there  is a Ropes Course suspended above the open decks and an Aqua Park. May give these a miss as I do not like heights and water slides are a definite no no – always scared I will get stuck in the tube and the force of the water will push me at such a rate I will catapult off the ship!!

With so much available and so little time I will need to try and fit as much in so watch out for my report next week.

If you have any questions or queries about the ship or Norwegian in general please email me at [email protected] and I will endeavour to answer them.
