A Tale of Two Ships – Calling All Solo Travellers

The other ship that I was lucky enough to visit a couple of weeks ago was the lovely Voyages to Antiquity ship Aegean Odyssey.

Aegean Odyssey is a massive contrast to Carnival Sunshine, and most of the large ships sailing in the Mediterranean today, this is a ship specially adapted for island and coastal cruising. She can, therefore, visit smaller, less crowded harbours and sail close to the coast allowing splendid views from her decks.

She carries around 350 passengers and is ideal for those people who don`t want to travel with thousands of other passengers on a faceless floating hotel, but who do want to visit beautiful islands, small inlets and lovely little villages, as well as exploring ancient sites, then this is the ship for you.

Aegean Odyssey, like Carnival Sunshine, is an old ship but, as you step on board, you would not think so. She has been lovingly refurbished to reveal a beautiful small ship with lovely cabins ranging from insides to suites and junior suites. The cabins are spacious with large beds, pastel décor and really nice, modern bathrooms – some with some with walk in shower ( proper shower with glass panels not nasty plastic curtains ! ) and several with a proper bath ! She is a very traditional ship with lots of modern touches.

I was very lucky to stay in a Junior suite with a balcony, walk in wardrobes and a large bathroom, with bath and shower, flat screen TV on the wall, a sitting area with and even Molton Brown toiletries! There is a safe in all cabins and a really good hair dryer too.The cabins stewards are excellent and the bed was large and very comfortable.

Anyone booking a balcony or suite also receives a welcome bottle of champagne and petit fours, refrigerator stocked with soft drinks. complimentary bottled water and a bathrobe and slippers.

There is, or course, lots more to say about Aegean Odyssey, but that will come in  later weeks, as one thing that is really good about the ship is her suitability for solo travellers.

On my return one of the first emails I received was a really good single offers on the ship. two voyages – 22nd September – Athens to Venice, a 12 night cruise calling at Athens, Nauplia ( Mycenae), Monemvasia, Katakolon ( Olimpia ), Ithaca, Corfu, Sarande, cruising Kotor Bay, overnight in Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and 2 night2 on board in Venice.

On 16th October there is another 12 night Rome to Istanbul – Civitavecchia, overnight in Sorrento, overnight in Palermo, Taormina, Nauplia, Athens, Delos, Mykonos, Izmir, Lemnos and Istanbul.

The prices include flights ( including regional connections) , transfers, excursions with excellent guides , open seating dining, wine with dinner ( local to the area you are sailing in and free flowing ) and gratuities.

On both these dates there are no single supplements cabins available! this is a real bargain so give me a call next week and lets see if we can get you on this truly wonderful holiday aboard Aegean Odyssey!
