Cruising but not as we know it…..

Well at the weekend I actually got to sail a boat myself. I use the term loosely as it was only a canal boat but what a great day was had by all. My husband and I along with 8 friends hired a day boat which we picked up at the Union Canal in Market Harborough, Leicestershire and we took it as far as Dibdale and back. We passed Foxton Locks, unfortunately with a day boat you are not actually allowed to go through the locks, but we did have a moveable road bridge and footbridge to contend with.

Where’s the rest of the men when you need them!

We set off at 9am and as soon as we were all onboard we made bacon rolls and bucks fizz for breakfast ( when I say we I mean my 2 friends made them for us all ) and we settled down for a lovely relaxing day. We all had a go at steering the boat, and its quite easy once you get the hang of it, and once we got to Dibdale we tied up and sat on the embankment and had a lovely picnic for lunch along with a few beers ( well quite alot of beers actually). Lets just say the journey back down the canal wasnt quite as smooth as the one up it! It may not be ‘cruising as we know it’ but it is a great way to spend a day and the fact that the sun decided to make an apperance made it a lovely day all round.
