My Olympic Turnaround

I have to admit that the thought of the Olympics being in London and the hype and advertising about it just wasn’t interesting me.  If anything it was slightly annoying me that everywhere I went there would be a ‘Go Team GB ‘logo shoved down your throat.  I mean ‘GO TEAM GB’!!!! What happened to good old Great Britain why are we trying to be all cool and hip and down with the kids??  Well when last Friday rolled around I didn’t relish a night sat in the box with hours of the opening of the Olympics so we went out for tea and didn’t think much of it.  I caught the last hour or so and was fascinated with the teams coming out to walk round the track and parade their flag.  I have been in travel since I was 18 and I have never heard of half of the countries that were on display but the outfits and their excitement was good to watch.  What can I say though, nearly a week later and I am completely converted.

I don’t know how it has happened but I am absolutely loving the Olympics and spent the best part of last night glued to the swimming.  I just think it’s completely brilliant and the chance of you to watch sports that you would never dream of watching is so good.  I have watched the archery, the rowing, the table tennis, gymnastics and the diving to name but a few.  The stories of complete devotion and commitment that some of these athletes have committed to the sports that they love is a complete inspiration and just shows that with hard work you can be the best at your passion.  We are starting to rack the medals up now and even have memento gathering for the gold!!!!!  My favourite so far is defiantly the swimming I loved the races as they are so varied in techniques and styles used and cheering on the athletes representing your own country makes you feel so proud especially when they end up getting a place on the coveted podium.   Its defiantly inspiring to as I found myself thinking that I must get down to the local pool for a good swim , not sure doggy paddle is an Olympic event yet but I’m a good contender if so.

I can tell you for sure that there will be no swanning off to restaurants this weekend.  You will find me firmly planted on my sofa with the Olympics on and me shouting ‘GO TEAM GB!!!!!!’
Proud to British like me then why not celebrate by booking an around Britain cruise and take in some of the fantastic ports we have to offer.  Click here to look at some brilliant round Britain cruises for 2013.
