The best day of my life…

The best day of my life, apart from, the day Max was born, the day I met Sonja, the day I got my first car, the day I went on my first foreign holiday, the day I was told I would be sailing round South America on Queen Victoria. But apart from all those the best day of my life was in the Caribbean on an excursion called the Rhum Runner. This fun filled boat becomes even more fun filled as the afternoon goes on.

If you have been to Grenada you may have seen the brightly coloured catamarans named Rhum Runner and original in the naming, Rhum Runner II. They pick up the passengers from right beside the ship which is convenient. After a large lunch on the ship to line our stomachs, we headed onto the fun boats. I had heard so much about the excursion from people who had been before and the expectations were high.

I was not disappointed as the crew were the liveliest, most fun people to be around and they could judge the customers well. There are quiet ones, couples, lively joker types, too serious for words and the been here before type of customers. The average age of the people on the tour was about 55 and the crew worked their magic with the ‘Ruuuuummmmm Punch’ (said with a typical Caribbean accent). There was a live steel band on the boats and music was playing all the way to the secluded beach. After a few drinks people were starting to warm up and have fun. They have a glass bottom viewing area where they tempted some fish in to view. Glorious varieties of all the colours under the rainbow were seen and right below us without having to get wet. Some people are funny about being close to fish in the water so this was great for them to see.

The beach had typical palm trees, beautiful white sand and warm crystal clear water which was great for a swim or snorkel to get a closer look at the marine wildlife. Even there on the beach the crew were ensuring the drinks did not stop flowing for everyone.

When the horn was blown for people to return to the boats that was when the real fun began. I don’t know what is in that punch but it works. Every person on board were up dancing, laughing and having fun to the music. A limbo stick was set up and people tried to dance under it. The crew showed off their limbo skills and people formed a conga line to have a go. The trip back to the ship felt so quick and before we knew it we were all waving to the other ship passengers as the Rhum Runner and its loud music, lively crew came to a halt back at the quayside. Some people who had over indulged with the ‘ruuuuuummmmm punch’ needed wheelchair assistance to get back on the ship. It still makes me laugh, a loud belly chuckle laugh, when I think about how different people are when they really let their hair down. We all like to sing and dance like nobody is watching. But very few of us can do it sober.
