My mini “Staycation”

I couldn’t believe my luck last week! Why?…well I had planned a week off work and for once it coincided with a week of amazing weather here at home…sun, sun and more sun!

We hadn’t booked to go abroad because we were waiting for my little girl’s passport to arrive so thought we would take a couple of days away here in the UK.  Not my usual choice,  but with the weather just as hot as across Europe we decided to head off to the sea side.

We headed to Llandudno, North Wales. Only a couple of hours drive from us here in Manchester made it perfect for travelling with a 2 year old , Sofia doesn’t have much patience for long journeys!

So just what did we get up too and was there enough to keep my little princess entertained? Most definately! We really enjoyed it and there were so many families and couples alike who had decided to stay here in the UK for their summer holiday all having a great time.

Here’s what we got up to…

The Great Orme Summit…we took the Victorian tram to the summit of the Orme, 679 feet up!  The tramway as it’s called is the only one in operation in the UK. The views as you can see were beautiful and we enjoyed a picnic once we reached the top. We also had a game of mini golf, and Sofia loved the adventure playground.

The Cable Car is the longest one you will find here at home…we went up to the Orme summit in the tram and back down in the cable car. I’m not good with heights so this was not my favourite. Martin however and my little girl loved it and I did have to admit the views were amazing. I was still pleased to jump off at the end.

The Beach, ok so it’s not the Caribbean but it is a blue flag beach. My little girl loved it and that was the main thing for us.. building sand castles, splashing in the sea, picnics and eating ice-cream! She couldn’t have been happier.

Walks along the sea front- I love being by the sea, and our long walks early evening when it had cooled down were fab.

The pier was one of the busiest places, day or night. My daughter especially loved the pier as this is where she found the fairground rides! She is to say the least a little obsessed any kind of merry go round rides,  she absolutely loves them as do most 2 year old’s do!

The Open Air swimming pool- when do you ever get to swim in an open air pool in the UK? I really can’t remember the last time I did it. The pool was packed with children having fun and Sofia loved it. She could have easily spent the day here.

We stuck to the activities that suited Sofia, we did meet a couple who were also enjoying a mini break, they had been sailing, sea fishing, tobogganing & kite surfing! They were having a fantastic time and said they did this every year.

We really enjoyed our mini staycation and of course the weather played a key factor. When the sun is shining it makes you feel so much better and just a few days away definately did the trick!

So all in all we had a really great week off and I would definately take another “staycation”.

What do you think, can a “Staycation” here at home be just as good as jetting off on a plane or boarding your favourite cruise ship? Would love as always to hear your thoughts.
