Carnival: “Today is our engagement with China Merchants Group.”

Carnival cement their interest in the Far East with new agreement with the China Merchants Group.

The new deal will allow Carnival to develop a new domestic cruise line in partnership with China Merchants Group.

Carnival’s Alan Buckelew was beaming about the announcement; “We don’t have a business plan yet, but today is like our engagement with China Merchants. We’re committed to get married and are still discussing details such as when we will have children and how many we will have.” An interesting analogy, to be sure.

Ships will be operating from Shekou, Princes Bay Terminal. Buckelew says that this will allow year-round sailing of the Far East, with no lost time in the winter.

Buckelew moved to Shanghai in September to help advance the firm’s expansion in the region; “I’m a true China believer. It’s just the size of China that mind-boggling for most of us and offers great potential for growth.”

To add to this, China State Shipbuilding Corp will be getting advice from the world’s experts in cruise ship construction, Italy’s Fincantieri Shipyard. Buckelew said China was five to seven years away from finishing their first luxury cruise ship build, with an emphasis on quality and not a speedy construction.
