Silversea Expands Empire to Beat Competition

If you regularly embark on cruises, it’s likely you’ll be pleased to hear that Silversea Cruises is delivering a new ship next year, with talk of an additional two vessels on the horizon.

Silversea is renowned for its sailings to over 800 destinations across the globe. It prides itself on providing passengers with a luxurious, elegant and lavish cruising experience.

The latest announcements were made after the cruise line sparked an agreement with Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

Norwegian engineering group Scanship Holding ASA has signed a contract to deliver its wastewater purification system – called Scanship Total Clean Ship System – on a Silversea new-build at Fincantieri.

Henrik Badin, chief executive of Scanship Holding ASA, said: “We are very pleased to be selected as a partner by Fincantieri for this prestigious project, increasing our market share within total clean ship systems.

“This confirms that our technology is requested by vessels that need to be in compliance with the highest environmental standards worldwide.”

Scanship’s equipment will cover advanced wastewater purification, garbage handling and vacuum food waste processing. The service will roll out during the third quarter of this year.

Talk of a shipbuilding agreement between Silversea and Fincantieri has been circulating for months. It was first mentioned back in October 2014, when it was reported that Industrial and Commercial Bank of China would invest a $1 billion (£650 million) fund into the construction of three Silversea ships at the Italian shipyard.

Silversea’s first ship is scheduled to enter the market in 2016 and will adhere to the line’s signature, luxury cruising experience.

What do you make of Silversea’s latest move? Will you be sailing onboard the new vessels?
