    Wind Farms

    Hi all
Saw a headline the other day made me chuckle,,,"Trump opposes Wind"

Seriously though, there has been a lot in the press lately about Wind Farms.
    Opinions seem polarised.
Some say they are noisy, they kill birds, they are not worth it,we don't need them, they are ugly, they reduce house values,so the Nimby's oppose them.
But some say the opposite, they can also make a lot of money for some,farmers/landowners.£40k for each large 3MW turbine.
Some say OK at sea but not on land,,some say they are inevitable due to fossil fuel depletion.

I fly to the I.O.M and there is a hugh one in Liverpool Bay,and quite impressive it is to,and i have seen Del's photo's of the one at Thanet.

Would you want a 100m high tower with a propeller on top in your back yard?

With the Hugh amounts of money being talked about,do you think we will have any say in the matter.

    Any views?

    Hi JC
Do you mean the photo shown in this article from America on wind farmes.
Have admit I like the look of them out at sea, and they draw a lot of visitors, but I dont know enough to argue for or against them. and I certainly would not want one in my back yard.

Feds Speed Offshore Wind with National Plan, $50 Million for R&D

    Or this one

I must confess that I have a phobia of them, have to close my eyes if ever in their vicinity, and still shudder.
No explanation, just find them to be eerie.Ugh!!!

    Good discussion JC.

I'm with Delboy on this and prefer to see them out at sea where they are less intrusive.

However, I'd still rather see more money being put into the development of 'wave power' along the lines of Pelamis, the company at the forefront of the world's most advanced wave energy technology.

    As always Delboy, great picture.

    Hi Nick
At least the one that caught fire at Adrossan kept you warm.
Its believed Scotland will have over 30% of the UK's wind farms by 2020.
If Independance comes, you could be screwing us exporting energy down South.
Read of a London financier who has got permission to build 59 turbines in a beautiful part of the Glenfiddich Estate on Speyside,he will get over £20m in 25yrs just for renting his land.
But the Scttish gov't said of the 1,261 public representations,615 was for it,,,some must agree!!

Well if I got free electricity for having one nearby then I probably wouldn't complain but I'm not sure if any such compensation is offered to people affected.
