    Transfers and hotels in Venice

We are ending our cruise in October 2010 in Venice. Does anyone have any experience of hotels worth using in Venice for a couple of nights and the most cost effective way to organise a transfer from the hotel to the airport? The cruise line want several hundred pounds for one night including transfer!

Just arrived back form Venice a couple of weeks ago. The terminal is about a 10 minute walk from the main bus station and a further 5 mins to train station. We walked and caught a bus to the airport ( about 3 euros)- you can buy a ticket at a little office on right hand side as you come into square. Make sure you get on right bus as there are services to both Venice Marco Polo for Easyjet and Treviso for Ryanair. It should be a blue bus. There is also a local bus 5 which also goes to airport. Costs less but is crowded and stops every 400 meters.
Hotels in the centre of Venice are extortionate.Try the Hotelclub.net website or Venere.com to check prices but your best bet is to stay in Mestre the other side of the causeway. We stayed in a 4* ( Plaza I think) which cost about 70 for a double room including breakfast. It is right opposite the station and takes 4 minutes on the train into Venice, cost 1 euro. All trains into or out of Venice stop here. There is also an airport bus from just across the road- face station , 200m on left.

Also get yourself a travel card from Venice Connected website( buy in advance for discounts). A single trip on the waterbus is 6.50 euros and if you want to visit the islands Murano/Burano which are a must or Lido, not quite so interesting, you will soon save money. They are also valid for buses to Mestre and no5 to airport!

    Thank You

Thanks for the information, it's much appreciated. Sounds a lot more reasonable than the cruise line's rates!

    Hi,

we stayed at the Hotel Bologna(Best Western)Mestre in july.

A very nice hotel that is situated opposite the train station, can't remember exactly how much we paid for a double room, but I do remember that it was very reasonable.

The train costs 1 euro into venice and takes about 10 mins.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris
