12 October 2011 – Fleetwide, Cunard Line’s world-renowned Princess & Queens Grills Suites received top honours in the 2012 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising & Cruise Ships. Offering luxury cruise vacations aboard flagship Queen Mary 2,Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, Cunard swept first, second and third place, respectively, among the “Top 10 Large Resort Ships,” placing Cunard as the leader of the luxury large ship category.
Having just celebrated her first anniversary in service, Queen Elizabeth joins her sister ships in receiving accolades by notable cruise expert Douglas Ward in his much-anticipated annual guide. Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria received the same honours in 2009, when Queen Victoria first entered into service.
“An experience in our Princess and Queens Grills is like no other,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. “Douglas Ward’s recognition of the intimate and elegant experience that we provide is a valuable testament to our hallmark White Star Service and our 171-year commitment to delivering a truly memorable experience aboard a Cunard liner.”
The Grills experience originated in 1936 when the Verandah Grills were introduced on board the Queen Mary and original Queen Elizabeth. The Grills tradition of intimate, gourmet dining, luxurious, spacious suites and a dedicated concierge service continues today throughout Cunard’s fleet, representing the pinnacle of seagoing service, comfort and style.
With the Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising & Cruise Ships in its 27th year, veteran cruise specialist Douglas Ward has spent about 5,700 days at sea, examining ships on their accommodations, dining, service, entertainment, cleanliness and overall value. With more than 40 years of experience, he spends up to 200 days a year aboard cruise ships, inspecting and evaluating their facilities.
"That large ships such as Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria can deliver the kind of experience it does to a wide socio-economic passenger range is evidence that the company's finest asset is not just the ships, but all those individual crew members who simply love what they do,” Ward said.
Ward’s ratings of cruise ships are compiled independently and unsubsidized by any sponsorship. The guide is available on 19 October wherever fine books are sold.
In addition to the intimate and unique experiences of the Grills Suites, guests sailing a luxury cruise vacation aboard Cunard feel famous in the experience of the voyage itself, not just the destination. By day, guests enjoy voluminous libraries, world class spas, white-gloved afternoon tea service and engaging Insights guest enrichment programmes; and by night are entertained by glamourous evenings at Royal Nights themed balls, West End-style productions and Veuve Clicquot champagne cocktails.

Cunard Line’s Grills Suites Awarded Top Rankings in 2012 Berlitz Guide]
Given the price of the 'Grills' they should be good!
I'm pleased to say that Cunard's standards in 'steerage' (Britannia) are also good, but cheaper!

Well they are doing something right only 3 ships & they get 1/2/3.
Well I can certainly vouch for that. Indeed, with the introduction of the full 'a la carte' menu, into the Princess Grill, in addition to a daily selection of 'Chef's Specials', the food onboard this particular voyage has certainly topped anything I have experienced on QM2 previously.

We experienced our first Queens Grill on QV in July this year; and I am not surprised they won all three places. Everything, from the size of the balconies/cabin to the marble bathroom with jacuzi and seperate shower; through to the amazing menu- caviar to start dinner followed by lobster/duck/beef; followed by crepes or flambe cherries; oh the mouth still waters at the memory. With a decent London hotel now charging an average £159 per night, room only, it really was incredible value.
Off on Fred's Balmoral later this year- dates dictating ship- should be an interesting comparison!
Will be very interested in your thoughts Leslie.
We have been In Princess Grill On QV & QE but have never been on Fred Olsen, hope you are going to write a review.

Thanks Lizzie; will indeed write a review. We have booked a 'superior suite' on the Balmoral, which apparently qualifies us for 'extras' so it will be interesting to compare and contrast as it is our first time with Fred.
